Shenandoah National Park attracts 1.5 million visitors each year
and many of them visit nearby Shenandoah Caverns and American Celebration
on Parade.
Authorized by Congress in 1926, Shenandoah
National Park was dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt
in 1936. The park’s nearly 200,000 acres are home to animals,
plants, and spectacular mountain views as well as lodges, modern
rooms, cabins, and campsites. Other lodging
is available near Shenandoah Caverns and American Celebration on
Parade. The Skyline Drive winds through the park and meets the Blue
Ridge Parkway near Staunton, Virginia.
Shenandoah National Park is a natural wonder rich in history that
encourages you to relax amid its rushing streams, waterfalls, and
wildflowers. In fall, nature’s palette paints the mountainsides
with a beautiful array of color. After you’ve enjoyed the
in-park activities, plan a short trip to see another of Virginia’s
natural wonders, Shenandoah Caverns,
and the spectacular manmade parade floats at American
Celebration on Parade.
To reach Shenandoah Caverns and American Celebration on Parade,
take U.S. Route 211 west from the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah
National Park. Follow Route 211 west to New Market, Virginia. Turn
right onto U.S. Route 11 and follow the signs to Shenandoah Caverns!
